Our fellowship program for teenage girls, as far as we know the first of its kind in the country, is the foundation’s longest standing grant program and speaks to the heart of the Eva Foundation’s commitment to supporting individual girls. We firmly believe that girls from low-income backgrounds have all the tools within them to be successful, but lack the same resources that girls from higher incomes have to develop their strengths. In giving these fellowships, we are empowering young, motivated women to not be limited by circumstance and follow their passions.

In the simplest terms, we want an Eva Fellowship to give a low-income girl experiences similar to those that Eva had. The Fellowship Program offers a girl the chance to have a special, singular experience that is just for her. In giving these Fellowships, EGF intends to enable young, motivated women to reach beyond financial limitations and follow a dream; to help extend their own and society’s beliefs about their role and abilities; to engender creativity and artistic excellence; to enable girls to exhibit leadership skills; and to amplify girls’ ability to be independent thinkers in an interdependent world.

Examples of Fellowships and Application Information

This award is for individual educational activities that integrate physical, intellectual, social, emotional and/or spiritual development. These activities can be as simple as a week at camp for a girl who has never seen the sun rise; as direct as the purchase of a prom dress for a motherless girl; or as momentous as a trip to visit traditionally black colleges and make a decision that will inform a girl’s career.

The Foundation will distribute awards, through appropriate, qualifying non-profit agencies, to deserving girls with a demonstrated financial need aged 11-18 to enable them to engage in extra-curricular activities of their choosing. The maximum award in this category is $2,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year.
