Eva Leah Gunther Program Grant: for the recipient educational or service institution to fund programs designed to assist girls in developing their unique talents and potential, recognizing the needs of the whole child. The maximum award in this category is $10,000. The Foundation will not fund tuition at parochial or independent schools or new, experimental programs. The Foundation specifically is interested in funding activities that directly benefit specific individuals; that help girls extend their own and society’s beliefs about their role and abilities; that engender creativity and artistic excellence; that enable girls to exhibit leadership skills; and that amplify girls’ abilities to be independent thinkers in an interdependent world.
Guidelines, Procedures and Criteria for Institutions
Institutions may apply for awards by submitting an application in the form of a standard business letter, not exceeding three pages in length. The letter should identify the specific program for which they are seeking support, and in light of the listed criteria, explain how the program specifically enhances the participants’ motivation, focus, enthusiasm and how it provides support for the child’s accomplishment. Specific examples of program successes should also be included. The institution will:
be a duly constituted organization meeting all legal requirements for an organization of its size and scope;
deliver its services primarily in the Bay Area;
fund specifically identified individuals;
inform these individuals they have received an Eva Leah Gunther grant.
The institution will provide as a part of its application:
evidence of its tax-exempt status;
a brochure or other information defining the organization’s purpose;
a copy of the past year’s financial statements and the current year’s budget, including a separate budget of the program for which the grant is intended;
a list of directors, trustees, staff and officers.
The Foundation requires two reports from the recipient institution:
the first is due within 30 days after acceptance listing who among the institution’s clients will be receiving the benefit of the award. The check will be mailed upon receipt of this letter.
The final report is due after use of the funds describing the implementation of the grant and the achievements of the recipients. The final report, where possible should also include letters from the named beneficiaries
Criteria
The organization:
will provide a significant portion of its services to support the physical, social, moral, spiritual and emotional growth of girls age 11 through 18;
be a non-profit organization, and can be a public, charter or independent school;
can be co-educational, although the program for which awards will be granted cannot benefit only males (although it can benefit both genders or girls alone);
must be headquartered and deliver its services in the Bay Area;
will show it has a plan to continue funding the program when the grant money expires;
will demonstrate the program is not solely tied to administrative support of the institution;
and guarantee the program will directly meets the needs of individual students.
