EVA GUNTHER FOUNDATION “BROWN BAG” PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES.

I. 3/11/2010 – Program Exchange. Program Managers and Staff, come share information about your programs with program staff at other organizations to expand opportunities for your participants! Find out about other programs your participants can go to, such as arts programs, social service agencies, and advocacy organizations.
Moderator: Deborah Vaughn.  Artistic director and primary choreographer of Dimensions Dance Theater, received her M.A. in dance from Mills College.  She has traveled and studied traditional dance and culture in Jamaica, Cuba, the Bahamas, Trinidad, Haiti, and West Africa. Deborah is strongly committed to artistic collaboration, and has worked with an eclectic mix of internationally recognized performing and creative artists.  Deborah’s exceptional treatment of traditional African dance and other ethnic dance forms of the African Diaspora has brought about an enhanced appreciation of African derived work among audiences in the Bay Area. Her choreography has drawn its inspiration from experiences and circumstances that have affected life in America and around the world in powerful ways, taking the experience of Africans and African Americans to a new frontier by blending contemporary influences with the deep and vital traditions of the past
 
II. 3/18/2010 – Executive Exchange. ED’s and Development Directors, come meet each other and talk about how we can build alliances to support girls!
Moderator: Marlene Sanchez, Executive Director, Center for Young Women’s Development. Marlene Sanchez was born and raised in the Mission district of San Francisco. Marlene came to the Center for Young Women’s Development at age 15 looking for employment and a way out of the juvenile justice system. She was hired as a community health outreach worker and provided HIV/STD education and harm reduction supplies, and love to hundreds of young women who lived and worked in the underground street economies of San Francisco. Marlene has a passion for working with young women and girls who are involved in the juvenile justice system because of her personal experiences. In 1999, Marlene Sanchez was sworn in by the Superior Court of San Francisco as the first “youth” appointed to the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Commission, where she served for five years. She is currently the co-chair of the Community Justice Network for Youth, a national organization of community-based programs that serve youth of color in the juvenile justice system. Marlene provides training to organizations around the county looking to understand and adopt our vision, programs, and methodology.

Moderator: Margot Magowan, Woodhull Institute for Ethical LeadershipMargot Magowan is a writer and commentator. Her articles on politics and culture have been in Salon, Glamour, the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News, and numerous other newspapers. She has appeared on Good Morning America, CNN, Fox News and other TV and radio programs. Her new blog, ReelGirl, which rates kids media and products on girl empowerment, was just picked up by SF Gate for its City Brights section. Margot co-founded the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership an organization that trains young women to be leaders and change agents. She recently launched the Woodhull Fellows Program which identifies, recruits, and provides media training for women, placing them at the forefront of public debate so that they become recognized authorities who can shape public policy. Margot has worked with non-profits, political groups, high school students, and individuals, teaching them to write op-eds, speak on talk radio, and advocate causes in the public arena. Margot worked as a talk radio producer for KGO Radio. She lives with her husband and their three daughters in San Francisco.
 
IV. 4/15/2010 – Evaluation and Assessment.  Come get perspectives on evaluation from nonprofit executives and foundation staff. Learn about tools to enhance your ability to plan programs and present the solid results of your work.
Moderators: Laura Rosbrow, MSW, Eva Gunther Foundation, & Carrie Ellett,National Program Director, Girls for a Change.  Carrie Ellett  is currently GFC’s National Program Director. She started as Silicon Valley Program Director, and since has expanded the program to 7 new cities in the US. She has also been a panelist and presenter at many conferences. Carrie has recruited and trained more than 400 women volunteer coaches and managed more than 250 Girl Action Teams as a GFC Program Director.  Carrie was a member of the California Women’s Foundation Advisory Committee on Youth, Media and Social Change and was selected for the Women Leaders for the World program at Santa Clara University. Carrie began working in girl programming at the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County, and spent two years in national service as part of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. Carrie has also worked as an instructor with the Princeton Review, teaching math, reading and writing to urban fourth graders in Boston, MA.  She has also worked as a sports writer for newspapers, magazines and online services such as the Daily Oklahoman, USA Today Online and Hockey Magazine. She is a graduate of Michigan State University.  Laura Rosbrow coordinates the Eva Gunther Foundation’s new community program as well as supports the administration of the fellowship grant program. She holds a BA and MSW from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Coming to the foundation with a background in girls development, juvenile justice, the performing arts, community organizing, and evaluation, she is very excited to work with Eva organizations and fellows in order to better assist the amazing work on the ground in the girls service community, as well as increase awareness of girls’ priorities in the Bay Area nonprofit, governmental, and philanthropic communities.

V. 4/29/2010 - Body Image and Eating Disorders. Explore this difficult and sensitive topic with an expert. Discuss current issues and learn approaches to touching on body image issues with girls.  Moderator: Anne Krantz, Ph.D.,ADTR. EGF President.  Anne Krantz  is a registered dance therapist and licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in San Francisco. For over 30 years, she has integrated mind, body and spirit in work with children, adolescents and adults, dealing with issues such as trauma, eating disorders, cancer and chronic illness, atypical neurodevelopment and attachment disorders. She is on the faculty of CIIS graduate program in Somatic Psychotherapy, and on the medical staff of UCSF Medical Center. Anne is President of the Eva Gunther Foundation, having founded the organization with her husband, Mark Gunther, to honor the memory of their daughter Eva.
 

VI. 5/13/2010 – Partnering with Schools. Learn how to approach schools to develop effective working relationships!
Moderator: Emily Keeler, Founder and Artistic Director,San Francisco Arts in Education Project.   Emily Keeler has worked as a professional dancer and choreographer in the San Francisco Bay Area for over thirty years.  She served as dancer and resident choreographer for the San Francisco Moving Company and was a principal dancer for Cliff Keuter New Dance Company and the Joe Goode Performance Group.  Ms. Keeler has choreographed dances for many companies, including Joffrey Dancers, DanceArt and Oakland Ballet.  She also has choreographed for George Coates Performance Works, Magic Theater, The Pickle Family Circus, Make*A*Circus, American Conservatory Theater and several Z Space productions.  She is a recipient of four National Endowment for the Arts Choreographers’ Fellowships.  Ms. Keeler has been Artistic Director of SFArtsED since 1985 and serves as Artistic Director and choreographer for the SFArtsED Players.  She has been a guest artist at School of the Arts, San Francisco State University, Mills College and de Anza College and has served on the San Francisco Arts Commission.
